Physical Appearance

Physical Description Noble Cravens stands at 5'8" with a compact, sturdy build honed through years of crawling through plasma conduits and ducking under half-repaired bulkheads. His bald head shines beneath most lighting conditions, a choice he’s embraced since his late 20s when hair became more trouble than it was worth. His eyes, a rich and weathered brown, are sharp and perpetually assessing, often narrowed in calculation or squinting into a flickering panel.

He’s almost always seen with some sign of the day's work: a grease smudge on the cheek, a burn patch on his uniform’s sleeve, or a diagnostic tool clipped to his belt. His voice is gruff but not unkind, with the low drawl of someone who’s spent years speaking over the hum of warp cores. Though past his physical prime, he carries himself with seasoned confidence and unspoken authority earned in a dozen close shaves with engine failures and hull breaches.

Personality & Traits

General Overview Cravens is the kind of man who’s been through enough that nothing rattles him. He’s gruff, sarcastic, and often delivers biting commentary with a deadpan expression. But beneath the callused exterior lies a fiercely loyal soul who protects his people with the quiet fierceness of a battleship's shield grid.

He has no patience for red tape, hates anything labeled “proprietary systems,” and often refers to new tech as “designer garbage.” Yet he’s also curious, endlessly inventive, and damn near prophetic when it comes to anticipating failures. While not known for polished social graces, he has a way of commanding respect through sheer competence and dry wit.
Strengths & Weaknesses + Mechanical Intuition: Can sense an impending failure before sensors register it.

+ Hands-On Leadership: Leads by doing—will crawl into a Jeffries tube himself rather than send someone blind.

+ Creative Engineering: Known for unconventional solutions that work better than the manual would suggest.

+ Field Diagnostics: Can troubleshoot nearly any system without a tricorder.

Weaknesses
- Distrust of Theory: He’s skeptical of “lab rats” and doesn’t respect officers who only quote technical manuals.

- Authority Issues: While not insubordinate, he’s prone to arguing with junior officers he deems 'book trained.'

- Reluctance to Delegate: Has trouble trusting others to do a job right, leading to overwork and occasional burnout.

- Claustrophobia in Open Spaces: Ironically, Noble is more comfortable in crawlspaces than open vistas or planetside assignments.

- Coffee Addiction: Will go to war for the last cup of real brewed coffee, and everyone knows not to talk to him before his first mug.
Ambitions Cravens doesn't aspire to promotion. His dream is simpler: to make his ship run smoother than Starfleet specs and to one day retire to a quiet asteroid station where he can tinker in peace. Secretly, he hopes to compile his life's fixes and hacks into a banned, underground engineer’s survival guide.
Hobbies & Interests Collects antique tools (real spanners, pre-replicator screwdrivers)

Modifies holo-novels to insert himself as the grizzled mechanic who saves the day

Hosts a secret engineering poker night

Writes poetry — though nobody knows. It’s stored in an encrypted PADD under his bunk

Builds strange contraptions out of spare parts, some of which now serve legitimate purposes aboard the Majestic
Song That Represents Character Working Man (Rush)

Personal History Born in a small mining colony orbiting Proxima Centauri, Noble was raised by his mother, a structural engineer for the colony's gravity plating system, and his grandfather, a retired Starfleet enlisted. His childhood was steeped in the practical application of engineering -- fixing things before they failed, jury-rigging systems from spare parts, and learning which warning lights were 'urgent' and which were 'the usual nonsense.'

He enlisted in Starfleet at 18, eager to get off the rock and see how the big ships did things. What he found was both astonishing -- sometimes laughably inefficient, depending on the ship and crew. Over the years, he developed a reputation as the 'guy who could fix anything, even if it was already fixed.' He served on five different starships before being assigned to the USS Majestic.
Service Record Starfleet Enlistment: Age 18

USS Damascus – Promoted to Petty Officer Second Class; known for an infamous incident where he reprogrammed the environmental controls during a heatwave

USS Panacea – Advanced to Petty Officer First Class; oversaw structural repair teams during a skirmish that left half the saucer section vented

USS Calloway – Promoted to Chief Petty Officer; managed Engineering Section Bravo and trained junior enlisted personnel

USS Majestic – Specialized in warp field diagnostics and power distribution; serves as unofficial "den mother" to young engineers
