Mission: A Day In The Life
Location: USS Orcrist

[PREVIOUSLY]

"Nah. I was told he went down last night with one redhead and came back early this morning with another."

[CONTINUED]

"Well, he is kinda hot. Even for a doctor." The female giggled. "Or should I say, especially for a doctor."

Ryn snapped her box closed and stood. They'd clearly forgotten she was working in the corner. As she turned, she recognized the woman as a young petty officer from engineering.

While Ryn thought it was funny that she turned into someone else when she and Raf returned to the ship this morning, she kept from showing it. She wasn't going to encourage gossip about where people went and with whom. And she didn't want to be part of that gossip herself.

She paused as she walked past them and looked from one to the other, pleased to see they both looked guilty. She just raised an eyebrow as they looked more uncomfortable, then walked out.

Once she was far enough away, she chuckled. She hadn't really paid attention to who was manning the transporters, but had they really thought she was someone else?

As she walked down the corridor, the song So this is love from Cinderella started to play in her head. "No," she said out loud. Maybe it wasn't too late to stop by sickbay to see if Raf was free for lunch...

Her thoughts went back to the night before and that one brief kiss, followed by the almost kiss at the door to her quarters. "Sorry," she said as she bumped into someone. She needed to focus.

She was approaching The Prancing Pony when she thought she saw Raf ahead of her. It looked like he'd just come from the lounge. Drat. Another opportunity lost. She decided to get herself a sandwich to take back to her office while she did some paperwork.

The day was dragging...

- His busy work was done, double...no triple checked.
- Reports filed.
- Requests submitted.
- Petty Officer Esragg's questions reviewed and meeting scheduled.

Rising, he left his office to check on his one in house patient. "How are ya doing? Ready to get out of here?"

With a grin, "You have nooo idea."

Raf chuckled as he scanned the Ensigns foot. "Everything seems to be repairing itself nicely."

Setting his tricorder aside he took the young man's foot in his hands squeezing it here and there. He felt no flashed of pain or discomfort in him and he rolled back, grabbing and pocketing his tricorder.

"Okay, get out of here and if she hasn't already done so...suggest that Lieutenant Csira run a diagnostic on the antigravs. I don't need any more of her people in here after having things fall on their feet."

"Yes sir."

Updating the medical record at least gave him something to do and he prepared a message to Ryn to let her know her officer was ready to return to duty. Pausing, midway through an invitation to dinner but stopped ~Too soon?~ he asked himself.

His mind returned to the moment in the corridor outside her quarters. What would have happened had there had been no interruptions...

During his imagining, the message was sent.

Ryn was done with her paperwork. Finally. She had to do one report twice because she wrote that the moonlight in the arboretum would be perfect for dancing. The problem was, it wasn't for science. It was about the repair to the antigravs and the doctor's report on Ensign Pulver's ankle.

She triple-checked the report, then filed it. That was the last one for today. All the work for alpha shift was done. For now. She checked the chronometer. If she left early, she could get to sickbay before Raf left. She tidied up her office, slipped her PADD, tricorder, and toolbox in her personal drawer, secured it, and headed out the door.

She had five minutes.

1600

FINALLY...

Raf hadn't followed up on the message with his partial invitation. Instead, he left sickbay the moment he was off-duty, head to Operations to handle things personally. Hell...her office was only one deck below him and both of the quarter were on the same deck as sickbay it was safe to assume he would run into her.

Taking a lift down to Deck 5, he walked towards Operations...

Ryn stepped on the turbolift and hit the button for Deck 4... And got off on Deck 2. She didn't even realize it until after the ensign who was waiting stepped on the turbolift and the door closed.

Just her luck, the turbolift was busy and she had to wait. By the time she got down to sickbay, the shift would be over. Should she try anyway, or see if he was in his quarters?

As she pushed the button for Deck 4, she still wasn't sure what--if anything--she'd do. It seemed the fates were against her.

[Deck 5]

Strolling into the operation centers he noticed a few glances as people handed off tasks from one shift to the other. He hadn't thought anything of it until the glances were followed by several whispers instead of task oriented conversation.

Smiling he nodded as he moved towards the Chief's office but was stopped from a voice behind him. "Oh, you just missed her. Is there anything I can do for you?"

The implication was clear but even as the corner of his mouth lifted he bowed his head slightly. "That's ok. But I'm sure I'll find her."

"Of course sir. If I can be of any help..."

"Thank you. I'll be sure to let you know."

Once he was gone. "ARE you nuts?!"

Shrugging, "Whaat? I was just seeing if the rumors were true."

[Deck 4]

Ryn popped into sickbay on the off-chance Raf was working late. "Is Doctor Montoya still here?"

"No, ma'am. Can I help with anything?"

"No. I just had a question for him." She didn't want his staff to think she was stalking Raf. "I'll just talk to him later. Thanks." This whole day had been one miss after another.

She decided she'd stop by his quarters, just in case he was there. If not... Well, she'd either send him a message or try his combadge. But if he was out with someone else... She shook her head and turned the corner.

...the other side of Deck 4

Raf had tried to see if Ryn was in her quarters but no luck. He was tempted to contact her over the comm but didn't want to seem like he was being clingy or anything. Deciding to just let things cool out he decided to head back to his own quarters, change and maybe hit the holodeck for a swim.

Raf was gone, of course. Her luck today was terrible. Or just today was terrible. She considered going back to her room to do...something, but the thought held no appeal. The way her day had gone, she'd likely just end up pacing. Leaving the ship by herself also held no appeal.

Ryn stopped and sighed. She needed to do something. After a moment, she wondered if the holodeck was free. Maybe she could go swimming or kayaking. Either way, she'd need a swimsuit... Turning abruptly, she headed for her quarters.

Raf was already in the crossover corridor and saw the flash of red as the ginger he'd been looking for appeared and was heading towards him. It looked like she had seen him and he stopped near some of the ship's holodecks.

She wasn't paying attention to where she was going. Or, rather, she wasn't paying attention to what--or who--was in front of her. Not until she ran into a body. "I'm sorry," she said automatically, putting a hand on his chest to steady herself.

She recognized him before she looked up. "Raf." Ryn felt her cheeks burn. The one person she'd been looking for all day and she practically ran him over.

His hands went to her hips as he caught her. The top of her head only came to his chin and when this close her looking up at him was adorable to say the least. He didn't say anything.

For several seconds, Ryn just stood there, looking up and him and smiling. She wanted to wrap her arms around him and bury her face in his chest, but they were in a public corridor and she didn't want a repeat of this morning. It probably wasn't the best idea anyway. So, she said the first thing that popped into her head. "I've been looking for you all day."
