Mission:
Mini Mission-Adjustments [USS Orcrist]
Location: Medical
Timeline: MD 001 Morning
As he landed his shuttle in the spacedock's main shuttle bay one of the stations operation staff met him as he stepped out. The bay was a buzz of activity with various personnel coming and going. Hearing voice calling him, "Commander Montoya?"
"Yes?"
"Afternoon sir I'm Cheif Raines. You are transferring to the Orcrist correct?"
"I am."
She made a few entries on her tablet and looked up at him agaim. "Excellent. I've logged your arrival and will get you personal effects tagged for transfer to your ship. There is a tranporter station just outside the bay where you can beam to your ship as well as lifts if you have time and want to see the station."
Raf nodded and thanked the Chief as she proceeded into the shuttle and placed transporter tags on his belongings before moving onto the next arrival on her list. Deciding to take the quicker route, he headed to the transporter padd and soon found himself aboard the Orcrist.
Stepping off the padd, "Permission to come aboard."
"Thank you," nodding to the operator.
Elijah was heading down towards medical wanting to get a look at it, and when was the last time he had been in medical? It had been a bit, well he did have the cursory meeting with Lily as she checked on his eating habits. Still though. He'd like to check the new place out.
Raf new still had some time but he wanted to hit the ground running so he planned to use his spare time to check out the sickbay. Being fresh of the line there was probably equipment that still needed to be properly calibrated. So before he met with the Captain he wanted to put together a list of needs. He just hoped the list wouldn't be too long.
While in the lift he glaced at his padd to refresh himself on what he was down sizing to.
Akira Class, Medical: One large sickbay facility located on deck 4, equipped with two intensive-care wards, a laboratory, a nursery, the CMO's office, four surgical suites, a null-grav therapy ward, a morgue, a biohazard isolation unit, and a dental care office. Also pursuant to new Medical Protocols, all Medical Facilities are equipped with holo-emitters for the emergency usage of the Emergency Medical Holograph System.
The lift opened an he lowered the padd and contined on his way. As the doors parted there was a woman in blue and a man in red.
The woman in blue, looked up towarsd Elijah. "Fancy meeting you here, Captain, checking out the new medical facitlities?"
Elijah gave out a laugh. "Indeed I am, Lieutenant Marlow. Being so formal right now?" looking fondly at the woman beside him.
Lily gave out a laugh. "Much bigger than your first ship, Sir. "
Elijah gave a solemn nod. "Indeed, this is true. I do like this new ship though. We've got a new CMO from what I saw on the manifest. Do you miss being the CMO? I know you weren't one for very long."
Lily gave a shrug. "It just wasn't meant to be Captain."
Both Elijah and Lily turned when they heard the doors to sickbay opening.
Catching the last of their conversation, "Ah, Captain Rutherford, no problems I hope."
"No trouble at all, the Lieutenant and I were talking about Medical, and how it is different from the other ship we were serving on. The USS Majestic, our previous ship." a moment as Elijah studied the new arrival. "Commander Montoya, I presume?"
Lily was taking in Doctor Montoya's whole person, trying to get a read on him.
Noticing the Lieutenant's appraising gaze he smiled and gaze her a nod before replying to the Captain. "You presume correct Captain." Extending his hand, Rafael Montoya. Please, call me Raf, when protocol allows of course."
"Alright, Raf when we're not on duty." Elijah giving a bit of an easy smile. The blonde Captain looked around. "Shall we take a tour?"
Lily gave a nod. She was pretty curious on two fronts. The CMO as well as seeing the medical set up. She had arrived just barely before Elijah had done so.
"Absolutely. But first...". He turned directly to the Lieutenant, "...you must be Lieutenant Marlow, yes?""
Lily's eyes widened just ever so slightly, then crinkled up as she smiled warmly. "Yes, that is my name. Pleasure to meet you. and welcome to the crew."
Returning her smile. "Thank you. I pulled up the current medical staff when I got my orders. How about after our tour we sit down and plan our medical strategy for the Orcrist?"
"I am agreeable to that." Lily responded. "It will be lovely to do so. " When the other CMO's were sort of around, she truly didn't have a chance to sit down with them. Much had happened, during those years.
Elijah watched the interaction between Raf and Lily.
"We can make this a short and sweet tour of medical then I can get out of your way to conduct your meeting." The captain making the quick decision. He felt that Lily needed to get to know this CMO. And hopefully he will last.
"Apologies for the delay sir," with a gesture, "...lead the way Captain."
"No delays, I just wanted to get out of the way so you can talk with Lily here." Elijah having an amused expression. "Do you have any questions while we take a look around?"
Nodding, "Actually yes. I have family on Earth and I was wondering when we were scheduled to depart?"
"You've got some time to go see your family, I do know that I will be going to see family as well. You've got at the very least three days to do so." Elijah responded.
Lily gave a nod. " I plan on going to see my family as well. Its been some time since I've seen my family face to face. it will be lovely to do so."
"Well...Lily, if I may call you Lily. I already go a brief visit in before coming aboard so you go ahead first and I can head down after you return," looking back to the Captain, "or if it would be ok for them to come aboard Sir?"
"As this ship is still getting the rest of the crew coming back and final checks on the ship, I would rather meet your family first, before they come onto the ship." Elijah responded after giving a few moments of thought.
"We do have other crew that will keep watch over things. You may make a visit with your family at the same time as Lily does."
Elijah felt a bit protective over the new ship, and at the moment he felt that the Orcrist wasn't quite ready to receive visitors.
Raf lifted and waved a hand. "No problem what so ever, I completely understand; transferring a crew to a new ship can get hectic. Don't need and extra bodies in the mix."
He had a crazy thought to see if either of them would want to join him for some horseback riding and a home cooked meal before the ship departs, but held back; not want to give the wrong impression having only just met them.
Lily looked at Raf, "since we're both here, tell us a little bit about you while we look at sickbay. What are your beliefs when it comes to treatment of patients." deciding to jump in with both feet.
Elijah had an amused expression when Lily beat him to the punch. She could be rather direct when looking for information.
"I've not looked at your file as of yet, Raf." Elijah added. "Just enough to note your name and what you look like, then my kids drew me away from my reading."
"Sounds like my nephews..."
Looking back to Lily, "When it come to the treatment of patients or how I run things. The first...is a case by case situation. Every patient is different and has to be treated accordingly. With me being the new kids on the block, some will take the change in stride while others will be hesitant. While rank will engender a level of respect and expectation of experience; it takes time to build that one on one trust that . In those situations I will be rely on the current staff to help bridge that gap.
"As CMO, I supervise those within my department but I do not micro manage. Having been CMO for a starbase you couldn't...I have to trust that those working for me know what they are doing but be ready to intervene when needed."
"What about homeopathic remedies and massage therapy, along with acupuncture and acupressure?" These Lily was a firm believer in those type of treatments, paired with modern medicine.
Elijah was curious as to Raf's answer.
He felt both pairs of eyes looking at him intently and a he slowly let his grin grow wider. "I am a big proponent of alternative medicine, helping the body heal itself, etc.. More that that I also insist that my staff know how to practice medicine without..." casting his hands about, "...all this wonderful technology. Older forms and techniques might be slower in result, but they can save lives, no matter how 'primitive' the medical establishment might consider them."
"There is one other massage I do know how to do and that is Ashiatsu" Lily turned towards Elijah "Don't you dare, don't need you to say bless you."
Elijah closed his mouth quickly. Then he said with a slight smirk. "That treatment is the only time you get to walk all over me."
Raf dropped his head shaking it, he had a feeling this was going to be an interesting assignment. "Well, good to know that there's a masseuse on staff."
Lily chuckled at Raf's reaction. "Bet you didn't expect that."
