Crystal Stasis - Part II

Posted on Wed Dec 31st, 2025 @ 9:43pm by Lieutenant Lily Marlow & Lieutenant Commander Rafael Montoya & Lieutenant Rynna Csira

1,421 words; about a 7 minute read

Mission: A Day In The Life
Timeline: Medical Lab Two

[PREVIOUSLY]

The operations chief was fascinated with the language and the readings. She also wanted to find out why it was monitoring her. Proximity was the likely reason, but was there more to it than that? "Let me know if any of the readings change." Then she moved to get a better angle to look at the underside of the stasis chamber.

[CONTINUED]

The reads shifted slightly. "Slight shift in reading but I get a corresponding shift in my tricorder as you reacted. The chamber is watch your bodily functions closely. Probably a standard process in order to establish the stasis process for the occupant."

Better to err on the side of caution. "You should probably get out before it has what it needs and closes up on ya."

"Yeah," Ryn replied. "Almost done with this part. I'm afraid if I don't finish now, I won't get another chance." She took a look around her, hoping to see some sort of indication as to how much time she had before needing to move away. "There's a good chance nothing will happen as long as I'm not laying down." But she knew the chance wasn't zero, so she wasn't going to discount what the doctor told her. At the same time, she wondered if she could get more data by going inside.

Closing his tricorder, he pocketed it as he stood ready to snatch her out if needed. "Probably true, but just... I'll be ready just in case."

"Thanks. I appreciate that," Rynna said, flashing him a smile. And there went her thoughts back to Snow White and Prince Charming. She gave herself a mental shake. She'd have to read the fairy tale later to put it back into perspective.

Lily snapped her fingers. "Wait, I almost forgot. We set up a console plus screen which can connect with the stasis chamber to see what the occupant of the chamber can see. Its right here somewhere." looking around her eyes lit up when she saw it, the equipment just waiting there.

"All we need to do is have someone lay down and the lid closes then we should see what is going on in the mind. Plus, T'seng was able to talk to us while she was in the chamber. it was a bit surreal but she was able to do so utilizing the combadge link."

"Also, those other sensor patches on the lower area it seems that those are matching chi points upon the body." she looked at both Ryn and Raf. "Just need to get this operational."

"I can do that," Ryn said. "It's easy enough. But I also want to be the one to test it." She gave Raf a teasing smile. "And I'll trust our good doctor to wake me up if it becomes necessary." She already had a good idea how the stasis chamber worked after all the scanning she'd done, so it didn't take long to connect the chamber to the ship. Then she carefully climbed inside and lay down.

Once Ryn was settled, she connected the patches and closed her eyes. All at once, she was in a medieval forest. She could feel the slight breeze that danced through the leaves, smell the thick undergrowth, and hear the birds singing to each other. "This is amazing," she said softly, turning a full circle to take everything in.

Raf didn't like this at all, the reason he was at the ready was to yank her out if is started to close on her and now...now they were both eagerly closing it on her on purpose. He was going to stop them but he let them proceed. Lily knew a lot more about this than he and had already extracted one person from it already.

Looking to the screen he saw what she was experiencing. "Are these images what she is thinking or is she experiencing an environment projected by the capsule?"

Lily watched Rynna and the display which told of her vitals.

"From what I can tell, it is both from the mind, as well as the stasis chamber. It linking to memories and creating a world."

Rynna loved the tales of Robin Hood, and the forest reminded her of Nottingham Forest. It was easy enough to imagine herself as Maid Marion, wearing a hunter-green gown, petticoat, and lacy bloomers. The skirt was full enough that she could probably tuck it up and climb one of the trees.

As she thought of it, a large oak tree appeared just off to her left. The branches were low enough to grab and the tree was wide enough to hold several people among the leaves.

Without giving it another thought, Ryn pulled the back of her dress through her legs and tucked it into the wide ribbon around her waist. She wasn't sure it would work for long in reality, but here she could make it stick for as long as she needed it to. If nothing else, she could get to her to the first branch without flashing anyone--although she didn't hear any people around her. Robin and Alan weren't due for a few hours yet. How she knew that, she had no idea.

Out of habit she checked to be certain the branch was strong enough, she pulled herself up and climbed until she found a comfortable spot to sit and watch the forest while she waited for the others to arrive.

"Now I know we were able to talk with T'seng while she was inside the chamber, I just don't remember how she did it. Except for communicating via combadges. T'seng had a name she went by when she was helping us out. Her name was Splice."

Inside the chamber, Ryn wasn't aware of what the people outside were saying. As she became more familiar with her surroundings, she also became aware of another part of the forest with other inhabitants. T'seng's world? Perhaps. She could go find it, if she wished. It was still there, waiting for someone to bring it back to life. But she didn't want to go there. She wanted to shape this world, make it her own. As if in response, she could feel the world beyond her part of the forest expanding. First she became aware of the wall around Nottingham, then the city itself. Then it was filled with people. Ryn was fascinated. This wasn't like a holodeck where she told the computer what she wanted. This was more like a creator sensing what she wanted and building it around her. She almost wanted to add a fairy tale section to explore later. Maybe Cinderella or Snow White... She felt another part of the forest expand to include a castle. Later, she told herself and focused on the area around her.

After a time, she heard two people coming through the forest. At first, they were moving quietly, then she heard the faint sounds of a guitar. Cade. No, Alan-a-Dale. He was playing the same song he played during the pre-launch party. But that wasn't who Marion wanted to hear. Then the song faded to nothing. It was quiet for several moments, then she heard a Spanish guitar and a rich baritone began to sing Amor Eterno. A slow smile spread across her face as she recognized the singer. Robin Hood.

"Fascinating." Lily remarked as she watched on the monitor, the unfolding of the story which was taking place, glancing over to see what Raf's reaction was to this.

Raf had leaned against the pod as they watched her simulation unfold. Only to have an eyebrow shoot up at the appearance of a Spanish Robin...green outfit and all. He looked into the pod with a coy grin, then to the monitor.

Seeing Lily's reflection in the monitor, he turned to her with an innocent expression, "What?"

Lily just chuckled, this was giving her some other insight in her fellow crew members. Rynn seemed to have an attraction to a couple of people.

After all, she quietly mused over what she had seen. The images of Cade, as well as Raf did show up in the world of Rynn. Also, who was that woman who arrived? Ryn seemed to have recognized her. Lily would have to quiz her at a later time.
