Mini Mission-Adjustments [USS Orcrist]
Location: Prancing Pony
Timeline: MD 03 2200
Raf had moved through the lounge speaking with several people, moving from cluster to cluster. He knew from experience that pilots and security types tended to be a tight group that worked and played together and for the most part those on the Orcrist were now different. It was also true that they tended to be the ones to get injured the most, other than engineers, so he made sure to try to make inroads into their circles.
Security types were easy enough to get the door to opened simply by looking for a sparing partner. Pilots on the other hand were a different breed altogether. That group merely made sure they knew he was there for them whenever needed. Sometimes support work better that trying to ingratiating one self.
Working his way back to the bar Raf ordered a whiskey sour as he scanned the crowd.
T'seng looked around to see who she recognized, her eyes were drawn towards Dwayne, the one who piloted the craft to take her friends to their new home.
"Hello Dibley." giving a bit of a smile.
"Oh, hi!" Dwayne gave her a big, toothy smile. "It's a great party. You should get yourself a drink."
"Thank you, I will." T'seng giving Dibley a smile.
He raised his glass to her in a salute. When she walked off, Dwayne figured he'd done his duty and took a swig of his drink.
Now that there was a break in the performing, lights over a small dance floor turned on and the speakers began to play music.
The music that had been played by the performers, had been piped over the intercom. Shailyn listened to the music as she got ready for the party. She stepped inside the Prancing Pony. Her hair was brushed with a little bit of curl, a slight touch of makeup accentuating her eyes. She wore a dress, a sapphire blue, matching shoes with an inch heels. Clip on earrings with a sapphire gems.
Upon her wrist was a simple gold bracelet.
Shailyn looking around spotted Raf and waved towards him.
Lifting his glass returning the wave and waving her over. "How are you do tonight? You just get here?"
Moving up to him, "Yes, I just got here but the performances that happened were piped in through the intercom. Even if I didn't get to watch the performances, I got to hear them."
"You sang beautifully, I may not have understood the words but-so wonderful to hear."
"Really?? I had no idea they were broadcasting them...and thank you. I was talking with some of the other and we are planning to put a group together. Do you play?" Raf replied
Shaking her head, Shailyn gave an apologetic smile. "No I don't, and in case you ask about my singing, the only time I do any singing is in the shower and I'm not that good either. Still though I sing."
Laughing he replied. "Well we are always our own worst critic. I bet you're not as bad as you think. Who knows you could be the ship big talent and you don't even know it."
A hearty laugh from Shailyn. "Nah my voice isn't cut out for no opera singing or even how well Rynna sings. I'll leave it for the song birds to sweeten the air with their voices." Looking at Raf
Continuing the laughter and raising his hands in mock surrender. "Okay okay, I'll take your word for it. But I bet we could teach you play something..." adding jokingly "...maybe hit a triangle?"
"That would be interesting to explore do you have one on hand or is it in the musical instrument utility closet?"
He chuckled, "Nahh...but they have these amazing things called replicators. You should see all the things they can whip up."
Shailyn laughed. "Awww okay we can go the route of the replicator. It would have been neat if there had been a musical instrument closet." giving a wink. "I'll have to replicate a musical triangle then or, maybe see if a shop on Earth has one not replicated, something handcrafted."
"Oh I'm sure there is a music shop somewhere that will have one. There may even be one on the station?"
"I will be certain to do so, thank you for the idea." Shailyn responded with a smile.
Anya and K'stahk sat along the back wall of the lounge as they ate and drank while enjoying the various performances. Several of their friends had come and gone as the mixed with others but they had been content to sit together and let others com to them while they enjoyed the shows and the people watching.
As the evening began to wrap up they got up and and Anya felt a wave of dizziness, but K'stahk was there and caught her.
"Are you alright?"
"Yeah...I think I just got up to fast. I'm ok."
"Alright let's get you back top your quarters." Together they left arm in arm.
Camelia was moving from her seat, to go speak with Sebastian, when something caught her attention and she just stared. Was that Shailyn?
Phyllis D'Lar walked into The Prancing Pony dressed in a bomber jacket and white scarf. It was her tradition to dress in a replica of her old bomber jacket and the scarf Charlie gave her to toast those who helped her learn to fly whenever she was assigned to a new ship or station. This time, it just happened to correspond with a pre-launch party, so she'd have a chance to get a look at some of the crew at the same time. She took a seat at the bar and ordered a whisky on the rocks.
T'Par rose from where she had been sitting and made her way over to Jasmine and Lily. Socializing in the human fashion did not exactly come naturally to her, but she had come to regard the other two women as friends. She sipped her drink and approached. "I hope you are enjoying the entertainment?"
Lily responded with a smile. "it was lovely, we've got quite a few talented people on the ship. I am glad that Rynna put this together, lovely to find out more of our fellow crew members."
Jasmine nodded, "This is true. I didn't watch the performances but Elijah and I heard the performances being broadcast all over the ship, the performances were rather good."
She looked towards Lily, "I do have a question for you, when will you let your talent shine?"
Lily glanced away from Jasmine's question. "Maybe someday. I don't want to step into the spotlight as of yet." Her eyes scanning the partygoers once more.
Jasmine quietly shook her head at that response, then directed her attention to T'Par. "Did you enjoy the performances?"
"I appreciated them," T'Par answered. "Many of our crewmates are quite musically talented. What did you think of the performances?"
"I enjoyed it." Lily began, "and I noticed that Cade, one of our counselors went up and played, he was nervous but his playing smoothed out as he continued. It was enjoyable."
"I do hope that I will be able to watch some other performances. I did hear them when we were getting ready."
"I believe there might be more," T'Par said. "I am not certain." She glanced towards the stage. No one else seemed to be preparing to perform. "Perhaps not."
Griffin poured the whisky on the rocks and slid the drink to Phyllis. "Here you go Sorcerous. Nice to see you in these parts." He was familiar with her and the stories of her flying skills.
"Thanks." Phyllis raised her glass. "May we never forget the ones who paved the way to our future." Then she took a long drink and smiled at Griffin. "I started that tradition when Lindy died." She touched her scarf. "Every time I go to a new ship or station, I make a toast to honor old friends and fallen comrades."
"i can respect that, I certainly can. I've had my share of flying, and now I'm--retired so to speak. Couldn't pass the final test of my ability to fly. Now I'm here and that's okay by me."
"I understand that. I've been up and down the chain of command, and now, I just want to fly," Phyllis replied, laughing as she thought of her past. "There comes a time when you just do what you love."
"I highly agree." Griffin said gruffly wiith a bit of a smile.
Camelia realizing she was just staring at Shailyn, resumed her movement to where Sebastian was seated. "Hi there, I'm Camelia."
Sebastian lowered his drink and flashed a grin to her, "I'm Sebastian, it's nice to meet you. It's a great party, don't you reckon?" He looked around and sipped the drink again and wondered if he could make it better himself.
"it has been quite the gathering I will say. I like it. Definitely a bit bigger of a bash than what we had on the previous ship. Maybe we can talk about this later?"
"Yeah," Sebastian nodded in response, "I'd like that." It would be nice to get to know someone without there being so much noise and commotion around them from the party. "Go have fun and come find me after this has finished and we can go from there, if you want?"
"That sounds good to me" Camelia giving him a smile.
Rose after looking around her eyes settled upon Cade, she sidled up to him, " Hi, how are you doing? "
"Heyya Rose," Cade smiled as he sipped at his brandy. "I'm doing alright. How's things?" The liquid courage he'd partaken in before his performance was resting comfortably in his stomach at this point. "Pretty good turnout." He amended, as he decided he might need to say a little more.
"Yes it is, quite the turnout. I am really liking how this is shaping up. I unfortunately didn't get to see the performances, but I heard them. They were really good. And I liked the music that you played. Uh what was the instrument that you had played your song on?"
It took a minute for the question to register. The brandy was apparently causing a time delay between his ears and brain. But Cade got it after a few beats and said, "Nice of you to say so but I'm well and truly out of practice. It's called a Quidlaine on Betezoid, but Earth breaks it down simpler to a Harp-Guitar. It gives a lingering effect on some notes and a wider range over all."
Focusing he said, "You're highly talented. How about a duet?"
"I am highly talented, what makes you say that? Not that I will deny that I know how to play musical instruments and sing. OKay long winded. Sure would love to do a duet. Got a suggestion?" Rose showing her dimples when she smiled.
"Well, we did spend an evening on Bajor at the festivals and I could see their music affecting you, so that's a good sign. And I know you're adaptable: having your clothing stolen hardly phased you. Means you're good under pressure," Cade said with his own smile.
"Okay lets do so then. Just don't know what song to sing."Rose giving a wry smile to Cade.. "Or--" she looked out towards the rest of the party participants. "We can take a rain-check and try it sometime later. Sound good? Besides i really would like to know if you actually have my clothing in your quarters."
Chuckling, Cade said "Well. I think they're yours. Only a couple of ways to really know for sure, so we can go investigate that if you prefer."
"Then lead the way." Rose remarked with a warm chuckle.
"Don't trust me behind you?" Cade joked as he began to filter through the crowd toward the entrance.
Rose laughed. "Maybe it is my turn to enjoy the view" as they left the Prancing Pony.
It looked like the party was starting to wind down and Elijah had gotten done talking with Craig. He noticed that Jasmine was catching his eye and he gave a nod.
Walking up to where the performances had taken place he had the music stilled.
"I want to thank Rynna for putting this together, everyone give her a round of applause, and also for yourselves for the herd work you have done on this ship. All of yoiu have a good evening." Eljah stepped down from the small stage and went to Jasmine.
There was applause from other attendees that were there.
The party seemed to go well. At least the captain enjoyed himself. But now, it was time to go. Vanya grabbed her violin and headed back to her quarters to put it away.
Rynna took a last look around, then picked up her keyboard. Once she put it away, she'd check ops, then take a walk around the ship.
